Parks Canada – Carillon Canal National Historic Site
With the biggest drop of any lock in Canada, the Carillon Canal offers a spectacular view. Equipped with a 200-ton vertical lift door, the lock allows boats to negotiate the 20-meter descent. To observe its operation and enjoy the beauty of the natural landscape, the park is perfect for a picnic, walking or kayaking. The site is accessible by bike from the VéloRoute d’Argenteuil (Route verte 1). Stop by the museum and take a look at the interpretive panels about the history of the Ottawa River’s 19th century travellers. Schedule: the park is open year-round, from dawn to 11 p.m. Average length: 1 hour. Admission: free.
