PONT COUVERT AU CONFLUENT DES RIVIÈRES MACAZA ET ROUGE
The Macaza covered bridge (1904) is the only remaining covered bridge in the Rouge valley.
Since most bridges at the time were made of wood, covered bridges were built to retard deterioration and prevent rotting. The portal of these bridges resembled that of a barn, which had the effect of reassuring the horses that crossed them, since they couldn't see the underlying water. Near the bridge, you can admire the protective cross and the chariot bridge (iron bridge).
Please note that due to the bridge's weight and height limits, certain vehicles must not venture onto it.
The municipality of La Macaza is part of the Route du Lièvre Rouge, a tourist circuit developed by the Société d'histoire et de généalogie des Hautes-Laurentides.
