MUSÉE DU SKI DES LAURENTIDES
The museum offers a wide range of exhibitions, educational and cultural experiences for the public. It holds a collection of over 7,500 artifacts, as well as 20 private archives.
The Laurentian Ski Museum (MSL) was founded in Saint-Sauveur in 1982. Recognized as a museum institution accredited by the Québec government Québec 2019, its mission is to devote itself to researching, collecting, conserving, interpreting, and sharing the history of skiing in the Laurentians', the cradle of skiing in Canada, by highlighting a unique tangible and intangible heritage.
In June 2023, the MSL moved into new premises located in the heart of the Town of Saint-Sauveur, at the junction of Rue Principale and Rue de la Gare, attracting an ever-growing audience.
Since 2012, the museum has presented its permanent exhibition "The History of Skiing in the Laurentians' Living in Winter, of Winter, and with Winter," which offers visitors a journey through time and a better understanding of the influence of skiing on the Laurentian region. The renewal of this exhibition, scheduled for 2025, is entitled "On Your Skis! A History of the Laurentians" and aims to immerse visitors in a unique winter experience, both cognitive and sensory, inviting everyone to relive or discover the history and development of skiing in the region.
The MSL was honoured with the prize du mérite en interprétation - volet communautaire from the Association québécoise d'interprétation du patrimoine in 2011. It was also a finalist in the Community Programs category of the Governor General's History prize , receiving an Honourable Mention in 2012.
