Les ponts couverts jumeaux de Ferme-Rouge

Les ponts couverts jumeaux de Ferme-Rouge

The covered bridges of Ferme-Rouge were built in 1903 and are known as “Town-style.” They link number 3 island to the banks of the Rivière du Lièvre. The first one, known as the “west bridge,” measures 53.49 meters in length and links Lot 6 of Rang 1 in the Canton of Bouthillier to number 3 island in the Canton of Kiamika. As for the second, known as the “east bridge,” it measures 79.06 meters in length and links number 3 island to Lot 21-A of Rang 4 in the Canton of Kiamika. These twin covered bridges are the only ones still existing in Québec, hence their exceptional heritage value.

A roadside halt has been set up between the two bridges where you can admire the sculpture of Joe Montferrand.

Classified as a unique cultural property by the ministère de la Culture et des Communications in 2012, they are the only remaining twin bridges in Quebec linking the banks of a river by meeting on an island. These covered bridges are a major attraction in the region and are a must-see for visitors.

The Municipalities of Kiamika and Saint-Aimé-du-Lac-des-Îles are part of the Route du Lièvre Rouge, a tourist circuit developed by the Société d'Histoire et de Généalogie des Hautes-Laurentides.
