Pont Prud’homme

Pont Prud’homme

Please note that the covered bridge is closed for all (pedestrians, bikes and cars) for an indefinite period

When you leave Route 117 in the Saint-Jovite sector of Mont-Tremblant and take Route 327 south toward Arundel, you will find, on your right as you enter, the very fine valley of the Rivière du Diable, the Prud’homme covered bridge of Brébeuf. Make sure to stop and admire its structure. If you cross the bridge on foot and look to your left you’ll notice a small hillock with a door in it leading to a former vegetable storage cellar.

The Prud'homme Bridge is a civil engineering structure built in 1918 under the supervision of Bernadin Durocher of Ville-Marie. It was first called the Bridge of the Armistice, and then, David Bridge until 1957 when it was rebaptized during the Duplessis mandate in honor of one of the local municipality’s pioneer families. You can clearly discern the structure’s architectural type, known as “Town Québécois” with the addition of a number of vertical uprights each side of the bridge truss, all 2.5 metres long.

The idea behind the openings in the horizontal paneling was to help ventilate the bridge and allow one to see out. Thanks to the light thus let in, these openings also helped avoid horses becoming fearful as they went down the long, dark and noisy corridor.

Open: year-round; there is a parking space near the bridge and space to pull off the road.
