Gare de Val-Morin

Gare de Val-Morin

Located north of Sainte-Adèle, on the banks of the Rivière du Nord, is one of the prettiest mountain villages in the Laurentians: Val-Morin. When it was founded, the village was located in the township of Morin, which bears the name of the great apostle of colonization, the Honourable Augustin-Norbert Morin who, as early as 1842, owned vast tracts of land.

Around 1851, Augustin-Norbert Morin built a residence in Sainte-Adèle near Lac Raymond, on land at the very limit of Val-Morin today. In those days, Val-Morin was part of Sainte-Adèle, a disorganized territory that came under the Council of faraway Terrebonne, where a good number of pioneers had settled. The first development in the Val-Morin sector goes back to the end of the 19th century, with the arrival in 1892 of the Canadian Pacific Railroad. Even so, Val-Morin did not really get started until as late as 1922.

Built outside the village centre due to seasonal flooding of the Rivière du Nord, which crosses the municipality, the current Val-Morin station is a replica of the former building. Located on Le P’tit Train du Nord linear park, there is a shelter to relax in and a restaurant for cyclists, walkers and cross-country skiers who frequent the park each year.
